Snowflake's Data Engineer process does not follow one script. Reports describe an online assessment or recruiter call first, then anything from a short technical chat about getting data into Snowflake to one-hour live coding sessions with engineers. Plan for coding fundamentals first and platform depth second.
The coding reports are practical rather than exotic. One candidate was asked to find every entry matching a date, then to rethink the answer when the list arrived sorted by date, and later to match a list of prefixes against a list of words. Another was asked to build an index for a column, leaned toward a tree-like structure, was nudged to start with a simple version, and ran out of time to improve it. If an interviewer asks for a brute-force start, ask how much time you will have to improve it. Follow-up questions in that round covered search trees.
Platform knowledge matters in some loops. One candidate was asked about getting data into Snowflake and its features. A candidate who went through a virtual onsite reports three rounds: data structures, distributed systems design for real-time analytics with high availability, and behavioral. That candidate also faced questions on Snowflake-specific functionality. Another candidate received a Spark-focused take-home after a HackerRank assessment, and one suggests asking whether your team expects Apache Spark.
Outcomes and pace also vary. One process ended after an HR screen when a promised technical round was never scheduled, and another candidate describes months of waiting before an offer they declined.

Synthesized from candidate reports. Individual experiences may vary.
Some candidates report an online assessment early on. One completed a HackerRank assessment before a recruiter call. Another describes a 90-minute assessment mixing algorithmic problems with SQL-based logic puzzles, so pure LeetCode practice may not be enough. Practice combining SQL reasoning with algorithmic thinking.
Early conversations are reported as light on technical content. One was a recruiter call mainly about logistics, and another was an HR screen on past experience and why Snowflake. In that second case the promised technical round was never scheduled and a rejection email followed.
Reported live rounds include two one-hour sessions with engineers: date lookups that change once the list is ordered, and prefix matching against words. Another candidate implemented a column index. A shorter technical screen covered experience getting data into Snowflake and its features. Be ready to explain tradeoffs while coding.
One candidate describes a virtual onsite of three rounds: data structures, distributed systems design, and behavioral. The design question asked for a system supporting real-time analytics with high availability. The same candidate was also asked about Snowflake-specific functionality and its value in real-world scenarios.
