The take-home Excel assignment was the most time-consuming part of my Shopee Business Analyst interview, although the actual work was fairly easy. Before that, I had a straightforward HR conversation built around basic behavioral questions, my CV, and my previous work experience. I was asked to introduce myself and explain a past project that was relevant to the role, so the emphasis was less on abstract technical knowledge and more on whether I could connect my experience directly to the job. The process was clearly communicated, but no fixed duration was given for the individual stages.
After completing the Excel assignment, I moved to a second-round interview with the hiring manager. This was noticeably tougher than the HR stage. One of the main questions was a market-sizing exercise based on the most recent item I had purchased on Shopee. It tested whether I could structure an ambiguous business problem, state assumptions, and work toward a reasonable estimate. There were also tactical and situational questions related to the role, including how I would respond if another team was late in providing required assets. The manager came across as extremely stern and usually replied with only one or two words after my answers, without probing further.
