Candidates for Grafana Labs engineering roles describe a recruiter call, a hiring manager interview, a coding round, and system design. Front-end candidates also report take-home projects. Most reports ended without an offer.

Candidates describe Grafana Labs engineering interviews as a staged process that usually opens with a recruiter call and a hiring manager conversation about technical experience and role fit. The software engineer who received an offer describes four stages: recruiter chat, hiring manager interview, coding assessment, and system design. A senior software engineer reports a similar sequence, and front-end candidates also describe roughly four rounds built around a take-home. The senior candidate put the whole process at about two to three months from application to decision.
The coding stage varies. The candidate who received an offer describes a realistic scenario where communicating their thinking mattered. They also did a React take-home with a pairing follow-up, where looking things up was fine and they added features on the spot. The senior candidate says a live coding round billed as a real-world task turned out to be a LeetCode-medium problem. Prepare for both a practical task and a standard algorithm question, and narrate your approach as you go.
System design is where the senior candidate reports the most friction. The interviewers pushed to jump straight to a solution and were dismissive of clarifying questions. Even under that pressure, clarify requirements and design goals first, then state trade-offs and justify your choices.
Front-end candidates describe take-homes with deliberately flawed code or open-ended requirements, followed by a review or presentation. One staff-level candidate kept initial answers short and was later rejected over unclear answers to follow-up questions. Explain each optimization choice fully rather than waiting to be probed.
Behavioral questions focus on working independently and collaborating across time zones, which fits a distributed team. Most reports ended without an offer, and some mention missing feedback or recruiter follow-up afterward, so confirm next steps with your recruiter.

Synthesized from candidate reports. Individual experiences may vary.
Candidates report an opening recruiter conversation about motivation and background. The candidate who received an offer found the team responsive and communicative throughout. Be ready to explain why Grafana Labs appeals to you.
Candidates describe a hiring manager conversation covering their technical experience and fit for the role, and one called it straightforward. The offer-stage candidate recalls behavioral questions about working independently and collaborating across time zones, including how they would schedule a meeting across time zones.
Reports differ on the coding stage. One candidate describes a realistic scenario judged on how they worked through the problem and communicated. Another says a task billed as real-world turned out to be a LeetCode-medium problem. Practice talking through your approach as you work.
Front-end candidates report take-homes. One received a deliberately poorly coded project, chose areas to improve, then discussed the changes in a review. The offer-stage candidate did a React exercise with a live pairing follow-up using a mocked backend. A staff front-end candidate presented their solution and was later faulted on follow-up answers, so explain your choices fully.
The offer-stage candidate lists system design as a stage. A senior candidate found the interviewers pushy about starting on a solution and dismissive of clarifying questions. Clarify requirements first, state trade-offs, and justify your choices.
