The technical part was much more C++-heavy than I expected, and it lasted just under an hour with no live coding. I had written down the questions out of order because they came pretty quickly, but the interviewer kept drilling deeper on fundamentals rather than asking me to implement anything. We started with manifestations of polymorphism, then moved into function overloading and how the compiler resolves overloaded functions with the same name but different parameter lists. Default arguments came up next, along with the virtual function mechanism. From there it shifted into memory management and safety in C++, which led into smart pointers, thread safety around shared_ptr, weak_ptr, and then types of locks. There were also questions on template functions, template metaprogramming, template specialization, and a few detailed checks on various casts and keywords. It felt pretty deep, like they were trying to gauge how well I really understood the language rather than whether I could just code something quickly.
The second round was scheduled three days later and was more conversational. We spent most of the time discussing my projects, and the interviewer guided the discussion toward how I would implement things better. There were one or two low-level memory questions mixed in, but it was mostly a back-and-forth about my current research direction and some practical design choices. We also talked a bit about frame synchronization versus state synchronization, and then the rest was a casual chat, including some discussion about AI. I did get time for my questions at the end.
