ALTEN Belgium Software Engineer Interview Guide

ALTEN Belgium candidates describe interviews that test both your engineering experience and how you fit a specific project, sometimes including a meeting with the client where you would work. Most reports start with a recruiter, HR or business development manager call covering your background, career path, motivation and why ALTEN. Several candidates say this stage stayed general, so ask early which project or opening the role supports.

Technical conversations vary with the role. One junior candidate was asked about recursion versus iteration, threads versus processes and core problems in distributed systems, plus practical questions on the team's tech stack. Others describe experience-led discussions on design patterns, debugging a client issue with almost no information, Verilog and FPGA experience, or cloud automation, CI/CD optimization and cloud security. One candidate got a repository-based coding test, where they improved an existing project instead of solving an algorithm puzzle, and then met technical leads and project managers face to face.

Expect to explain your own work in concrete terms. Candidates mention being asked about difficult situations in previous jobs, troubleshooting complicated problems and working with cross-functional teams. Pick one or two projects where you can walk through your approach and trade-offs.

The process itself can be uneven. Some candidates report slow or missing follow-up after an interview. One candidate who received a verbal offer says the written contract never arrived after they had given notice. Follow up politely and wait for signed terms before resigning elsewhere. Reports are mixed, with an accepted offer, rejections and a withdrawal, so prepare for fundamentals and project fit rather than a single fixed format.
