THE OPPORTUNITY Clinical Research Scientist We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our growing clinical affairs team within Abbott Heart Failure. The job purpose and scope of the Clinical Research Scientist is to author the scientific documents associated with design, conduct, and reporting of clinical trials in the therapeutic area of Heart Failure, particularly mechanical circulatory support and hemodynamic monitoring. This position will work closely within the cross-functional clinical study team including project management, medical affairs, biostatistics, data management, and other clinical study personnel in addition to working directly with physician leaders and study investigators. This position will have significant interaction with physicians and regulatory authorities. Description of Job Scope This position will: <ul><li>Generate scientific content required for the design and conduct of clinical trials, including but not limited to: authoring clinical trial protocols, case report forms, informed consent forms, report of prior investigations, and investigator brochures.</li><li>Contribute as an author on peer-reviewed publications of clinical study data through coordination with investigator authors and project management.</li><li>Develop presentations to disseminate clinical data at major international conferences.</li><li>Collaborate closely with statistics, medical affairs, and regulatory affairs personnel to accomplish goals that appropriately satisfy the needs of the business as determined by marketing and reimbursement organizations</li><li>Synthesize literature across multiple products and/or therapies within the assigned therapeutic area</li><li>Collaborate closely with external stakeholders including physician investigators and key opinion leaders, and successfully represent Abbott as a scientific expert for the assigned therapy</li><li>Author documents to support regulatory submissions for Abbott products and/or respond to questions from regulatory authorities about existing submissions</li></ul> Qualifications Minimum requirements: A PhD in biomedical engineering, biological sciences, biostatistics, or related field. <ul><li>Working knowledge in mechanical circulatory support technologies, heart failure pathophysiology, echocardiography, cardiovascular hemodynamics, or heart failure medicine is preferred.</li><li>Experience in data analytics is a plus.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently.</li><li>Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.</li><li>Demonstrated skill and tactfulness in working as a cross-functional team member.</li><li>Well-organized and self-motivated with an ability to initiate and follow through on assignments.</li></ul> Key attributes considered necessary for success <ul><li>Ability to work collaboratively, internally and externally</li><li>Ability to manage/prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to a changing, fast-paced environment</li><li>Ability to work in a group environment</li><li>Ability to drive effective communication with a cross-functional team</li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills.</li><li>Highly analytical</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills including influencing, negotiation and teamwork skills.</li></ul> Working at Abbott At Abbott, you can do work that matters, grow, and learn, care for yourself and family, be your true self and live a full life. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Opportunity Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease. Our extensive portfolio includes drug-eluting stents, bare metal stents, guide wires, balloon dilatation catheters, imaging catheters and software, vessel closure devices and peripheral stents. Our location in Temecula, CA or Santa Clara CA currently has an opportunity for a Senior Principal Research Scientist. This position requires academic training in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, biomaterials, or a related field and will work closely with R&D Mechanical Engineers, Product Development Engineers, and Analytical Chemists. This scientist will provide technical leadership and guidance towards the successful design and testing of medical devices, including assistance in material selection, chemical characterization, restricted substance evaluation and sterilization compatibility. The ideal candidate will excel in polymer chemistry, structure-property relationships, and material characterization, with a foundational understanding of biology. Additional job responsibilities will be to analyze root causes of a wide variety of failures related to issues arising in design, development, manufacturing, and/or use of Abbott products, support regulatory filing related to biomaterials, and design and execute research studies. What You'll Work On <ul><li>Participate as a technical expert throughout the product development life cycle.</li><li>Determine clear and specific priorities on the development strategy for new products.</li><li>Be responsible for writing and coordinating biomaterial sections of regulatory submissions.</li><li>Coordinate with cross-functional departments, including process engineering, manufacturing, quality, pre-clinical, clinical, and regulatory, to identify and coordinate contracts with external consultants and/or academic advisors on product development and process optimization.</li></ul> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING <ul><li>PhD degree in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or related field with over 20 years of experience in polymer chemistry, biomaterials, or medical device product development. </li><li>Experience with FDA regulations is required. </li><li>Understanding of material biocompatibility and experience with restricted substance evaluations is a plus.</li><li>Position reports to: Director of R&D</li></ul> The base pay for this position is $143,300.00 - $286,700.00 In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
