Heterogeneous Catalysis Modeling Research Engineer/Scientist at Battelle Energy Alliance dba Idaho National Labora in Idaho Falls, Idaho, United States Job Description The primary role of this position is to be a researcher within the Catalysis and Transient Kinetics Laboratory. This researcher will have experience in the use of machine learning and statistical analysis to extract kinetic and mechanistic insight from transient kinetic experimental data. The staff member will conduct research and assist in the oversight of ongoing projects in dynamic catalyst science and will lead innovation in novel microkinetic modeling methods as well as new dynamic operating mechanisms that reduce the energy intensity and boost the productivity of chemical manufacturing. Specific skills that are sought include, but are not limited to, statistical analysis, machine learning, Density Functional Theory, and Transient Kinetic modeling. To provide more context to the modeling work, laboratory experimental experience is desirable, but not required. Candidates for this position should have expertise in at least one of the following focus areas: (1) distribution systems, including distributed energy resources (DERs) modeling and control or distribution system management solutions to enable higher DER penetration; (2) microgrids, including design, control, or energy management system development; (3) transmission or bulk power system, including modeling of bulk power system generation technologies or expertise in high-voltage direct current transmission solutions, transmission system stability, reliability, and resilience; (4) power electronics system design and power conversion systems; (5) dynamic and transient energy systems modeling.
