Job Description General Responsibilities: Takes a long-term view of the IT portfolio for a given area of the business and engages with business management and executives to refine it to maximize benefits at a sustainable ongoing cost. Leads teams, focused on a particular area of the business, to deliver value through software solutions, whether developed in-house, developed externally, or through the use of third-party software. Is the primary point of contact for a particular area of the business for any business initiative which could require information technology resources or systems. Essential Roles and Responsibilities:<ul><li>Participates in the development of a roadmap for each application or system within the business area systems portfolio and obtains buy-in from the business and appropriate IT representatives</li><li>Regularly shares the roadmap with the business, product team, information technology leadership and others as appropriate</li><li>May participate in business area meetings and committees in order to understand the business context surrounding eventual IT-related decisions</li><li>Participates in innovation sessions when faced with new and/or significant business needs that involve IT but aren't met by the existing IT portfolio</li><li>Interacts periodically with end users of software applications and not only with business management and executives</li><li>Receives requests for work from the business and coordinates the product team's resources to perform that work</li><li>Learns about the business' priorities of both IT-related activities and where those activities are in the business' overall list of priorities</li><li>Manages the work of the product team, whether through task assignments, formal project management, Agile methods, or other suitable approaches</li><li>Commits to the delivery of work products within a given scope and deadline and successfully meets those commitments</li><li>Learns new skills and technologies as needed in order to support the current business needs of their IT portfolio</li><li>Engages with other specialties, such as training and communications, as early as possible prior to needing their assistance in order to realize value from the product team's work</li><li>Identifies current skills gaps within the product team and works with IT management to close those gaps</li><li>Identifies current needs for consultants or vendors in order to meet business needs and works with IT management to evaluate, select, and work with them</li><li>Follows IT department standards and processes related to design, documentation, coding, testing, implementation, etc., and regularly recommends improvements to them</li><li>Follows safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participates in pre-task planning; reports any safety issues or concerns to management</li><li>Other duties as required</li></ul>Requirements:<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and eight to ten years' relevant experience. Overview We are seeking a full-time RV (and some Marine) Product Manager in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the definition of new products and integrated systems by providing market research, profitability analysis, voice of customer information and competitive analysis in a team-oriented environment. Essential Functions <ul><li>Develop and demonstrate Product Management product skills</li><li>Develop judgment regarding product and system usability and customer expectations via hands-on usage and observations of customers in real world situations</li><li>Develop an understanding of Segment values & vision to set compelling system goals resulting in a superior product experience that answer the questions "Why Garmin" and "Why This Product"</li><li>Develop skills to identify/champion the essential features required to make a differentiated integrated system and superior product; the Key Requirements in the product concept and discern/reject features and products that are overburdened or are not useful to target customer</li><li>Develop voice-of-the-customer skills such as researching and analyzing market requirements and opportunities, aggregating and interpreting customer and competitor trends and meeting with customers to learn about their needs first-hand</li><li>Collaborate with Engineering to understand scope of work and product tradeoffs</li><li>Assist with preparation of product documents such as product line roadmap, product concept, product development plan and product requirements</li><li>Coordinate market research to track end-user feedback</li><li>Develop skills to evangelize the product`s vision and unique selling points with Sales, Marketing and Marketing Communications</li><li>Assist product marketing team with the development of product marketing plans</li><li>Support Sales and Marketing with the necessary product knowledge and technical expertise to achieve product ranging in dealer channels</li><li>Assist with training of Product Support and Field Service Engineers</li><li>Develop and demonstrate Product Management business skills</li><li>Become proficient in product cost and gross margin computations and in evaluating opportunity cost; the cost of building one feature or product and what other features or products could have been built using the same time and resources</li><li>Become proficient in understanding/managing various lifecycle phases: roadmap, concept, development, production and end of life in collaboration with Engineering, Operations, Sales and Marketing</li><li>Assist with monitoring of product gross margin and collaborate with the product team to maximize gross margins over the life of the product</li><li>Evaluate product cost tradeoffs with engineering against voice-of-the-customer inputs to deliver essential functions and best value while being a good steward of Garmin`s resources</li><li>Thoroughly document work in an organized manner</li><li>Apply Garmin`s Mission, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed</li><li>Integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development when possible as part of their normal job responsibilities</li><li>Attend industry tradeshows, customer meetings and other events as required</li></ul> Basic Qualifications <ul><li>Bachelor`s Degree in Engineering or related engineering field AND a minimum of 5 years work experience in a product development, engineering, marketing or analytical role OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience</li><li>Active participation in the markets served RV and Marine</li><li>Must demonstrate a strong aptitude for consumer electronics devices and systems</li><li>Self-motivated, demonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion, and has exceptional time management and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail</li><li>Must demonstrate a strong passion for Garmin, including its mission, products, values and success</li><li>Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to present data/product recommendations to engineering and marketing/sales management</li><li>Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)</li><li>Flexibility to travel (up to 10%)</li></ul> Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
